Hong Kong is a mystical and exotic island and perfect for a long haul global travel break. Hong Kong offers many great tourist attractions including the Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront, the impressive Victoria Peak, the aromatic flower market in Kowloon and the lively bird market. For those seeking more natural sites the great beaches of Repulse Bay and the mountainous landscapes of Lantau island would probably suit.
An Interesting History – The island’s previous history is well known and a past of English Colonialism lends this island a very different feel to the rest of Asia. Signs of the Western occupation are everywhere and there is also an increasing amount of shops that originally hail from the West. Road and information signs are written in both Chinese and English and their is a large ex-pat English population, particularly around the SoHo area. If you are a Western, of course this makes Hong Kong a far more easier place to travel around.
Eating Out and Shopping – Hong Kong is a haven for potential shoppers and many visitors are surprised with the vast amount of goods on offer. Hong Kong is proudly obsessed with designer goods and if top end luxury is what floats your boat you won’t be disappointed in Hong Kong. Although if you prefer something a little different the Asian island also caters very well to other tastes too. There are many weird and wonderful shopping malls to choose from and many offer original fashions. You will never go hungry in Hong Kong and at every corner there a great restaurant can be found – whether it’s traditional Asian or Western vegetarian this place has it all.
Perfect for Nature Lovers – Many might not realise that despite the crowds and the over population, Hong Kong still has vast areas of natural beauty. If it’s relaxation or wildlife you’re after try the lovely beaches of Repulse bay or the peaceful islands of Lantau and Lamma. Every year these places attract many walkers and outdoor activity enthusiasts.
The exotic and beautiful island won’t disappoint as a break or a longer holiday whether you are into food, shopping or just relaxing. It’s Asia but with a much softer landing.
