Anytime you know that you’ll be vacationing in Sydney you can count on the fact that there is going to be something entertaining and new at the Powerhouse Museum . More than a traditional museum the Powerhouse extends a unique look at the world using not just the understanding of the past and how it influences the future but also by providing a variety of traveling exhibits about things such as 80′s Pop Culture, TV influences, and even a historical look at the rock bands from the past generations and decades.
In addition to the changing exhibits throughout the year the Powerhouse Museum also offers many Permanent Exhibitions as well including Cyber Worlds, the Boulton & Watt Steam Engine, the Strasburg Clock, and William Stanley Jevons. There are also many exhibits that allow for visitors to explore the world including information on global warming and a full range of hands on science experiments for electricity, gravity, and chemistry and areas on space and transport.
New additions to the museum are still in production and they will be adding a new section in December 2010 to allow children to explore spy gear and learn more about the technology and the talent surrounding being a super sleuth. The Powerhouse will also be adding a section dedicated to the Wiggles to their permanent exhibitions in the spring of 2011 and this will be a real treat for the younger visitors, and an exhibition of lace in July 2011, including a series of works of art and jewelry, all designed lace.
This variety of exhibits helps to get not only adults but children in the door and learning more about the world in which they live. Creating a more relevant look at history and how it has formed the world as well as the people in it and science as it relates to the world in which we live. It is a museum that offers a wide range of experiences for those with varying interests who are enthralled in learning more about the world.
This museum is a one of a kind attraction in Sydney and one that not only offers the opportunity to learn and explore but also to get hands on with many of the exhibits allowing younger children to explore not only with their eyes and ears but also with their hands because the more senses the kids use to learn the more they will absorb. And whether the kids are into art and jewelry or spy gear you will find that the powerhouse not only encompasses the best of culture but also science to offer a variety of treats for children of all ages.
